This book is very helpful
must read for all of us..
I wish I had read this 6 years ago when I got divorced.
I really like the concept of Real Love, I think it works, and the original "Real Love" book is great. But this book is simply an advertisement for that one. At least 2 or 3 times per chapter, the book recommends you to read other Real Love books (notably the original) for more information. I don't really feel like I learned anything new, and some of the things Greg suggests us to say to potential dates are really awkward - no one would say most of these types of things to someone you just met and like. Again, I like Real Love, but my advice is to just go out and buy the original book instead of this.
I ordered this book after buying and reading "Real Love", (which I enjoyed) thinking it might add to my understanding of unconditional "real love" especially from the standpoint of dating, but while the principle is great - the author is advocating for a more real and sustaining emotional experience rather than one build on false illusions, or imitation love as he call it - I found the contant promotion of his other products, books, CD's and website at the end of every chapter and throughout the book really annoying and unnecessary. Personally, I think if you read "Real Love", the first book, the basic principles apply across all facets of life...marriage, work, raising a family, etc, and it is not necessary to purchase each of these other books since they are all founded on the same premise. I think the author is doing great work by talking about this subject so throroughly and openly, but feel he has taken the subject too far by repeating the same concepts over and over and over and capitalizing on it...it came across as tacky. The author could have easily referenced his other books and products at the end of the book, and left it at that. Sorry, just speaking my "personal truth" here....
You would have to be a fool to start dating before reading this book. It provided me with the groundwork and fundamental understanding of relationships and people to go out and find a partner who is reliable, loving, and supportive. Not only that, but I learned more about myself, and why my past relationships failed. But most importantly, what to do differently so I don't repeat the same mistakes in the future. Highly recommended.
It's unfortunate that the rest of the world does not have the intense support groups as Phoenix, Arizona. The whole principle of Real Love has changed the way I interact with everyone. Everyone is at their own choice, myself and others. People do not control our emotions or our feelings. We make choices and then we have to be accountable to the results of those choices. But, we cannot make choices for others and we cannot change them. We can chose to be around those people and like it, we can chose to be around them and hate it (which isn't really a very good choice), or we can chose to leave. Period. When we have the expectation that someone else is supposed to make us happy... this is a guaranteed recipe for failure.
Despite the raving reviews I can give the principles in this book, I am only giving it 4 stars because Real Love does not go to the extent of teaching people about finding internal love. I believe that most of the world's problem is people are not able to completely love and accept themselves. Once we completely love and accept ourselves, we will stop projecting our own inadequacies on to others and we will be able to completely love and accept those we come in contact with, despite their own shortcomings. Real Love teaches us that it's always about us, not the other person. Yet, it doesn't take it all the way to teach people that the Real Love we require ultimately comes from within us...the God spark, if you will.
