Last year prep and build in pictures

I was sorting out some files for Free Range and came across these pictures. I have randomly juxtaposed them. If you look carefully at the FEED Studio you can get a sense of just how much stuff was taken down. You can also see that the auditorium is full of boxes made by Kayne Jackson and Martin Wilkie and painted by various people.

I love these pictures as there was such a buzz about the students...

2_Record Industry Design Brief

Can all A.Guy's tutor group please bring the B_Hive [Promote a echo friendly Brum] pitches to Mondays tutorial; From 9am you will be pitching to Mukesh and Myself in the auditorium. As you have already had a week on this I expect you to also fully pick up the other two briefs as and when I send them to you... Part Timers - start them but you will have separate schedules...

Saville is rather good at using minimal colour, in this example, New Orders Get Ready' album cover. It draws the eye down from the main focal point, which of course is the camera and in doing so adds weight and further interest to the image. Note that their is a lack of type on here too. It is not needed due to the already established relationship Saville and New order have already developed with their image/brand.

A New Order fan would recognise this a mile off and so would someone not already hooked but has the same profile as a NO fan.

OK, its a contemporary photograph and has two main elements; a figure shooting with a camera and a block of colour but it is a nod to Russian Constructivist's, Dada and more likely Bauhaus. So do your homework if you want to compete with Saville!!!

You can buy a seminar ticket for £4 or £7 for both the seminar and the Xmas party,

Tickets are selling out rather quickly! If you cannot get to either the FEED Studio or the Fashion Lab tomorrow you can RSVP tickets by emailing adam@thisisfeed.co.uk and reserving tickets on the door – NO ENTRANCE at the club without either prior purchase or RSVP and BMC learners must note that you can not attend the party only! The idea is that you benefit from the seminar. FEED friends, associates, parents of FEEDites and others’ are welcome to pay just £3 to come to the after party ONLY.

On display at the Medicine bar will be a plethora of artwork from graphic design to fashion and from print to motion graphics. There will also be an exclusive showing of the PLUS Festivals type cards, recently featured in Peter Saville’s edition of Wallpaper magazine and work by We Make Art.

UP DATE YOU BLOGS AND GET READY FOR THE FIRST MAJOR DEADLINE

Hello all of you. Please be ready for Thursday's deadline. Do not shy away or think about not turning up if you feel that you cannot complete the brief. Re-read the brief and look carefully at the actual deliverables. There are only a few outcomes and can easily be met by all. What will affect your grade will be the quality and quantity of the work you hand in.

That said it is better and in your interests to hand something in.

Lastly please update your blogs. I have seen some really strong work by some of you over the last few weeks but there is very little evidence of it on your blogs.

FOR £7 [an extra £3] you can get into the FEED_NOISE CHRISTMAS PARTY @ THE MED BAR, DIGBETH, which starts at 9.30 until 1am. At the Med Bar will be a display of PLUS Festivals type cards, recently featured in Peter Saville’s edition of Wallpaper magazine and work by We Make Art. Along with purchasing an upgraded ticket for the party you are entitled to submit a B+W A1 poster designed by yourself that will feature somewhere in the club as part of the FEED exhibition. This is a ticket only party. Please note that you will be issued a wristband that is colour coded to show whether you are under or over 18 years old. Confirmation of Birmingham Show

I can now tell you that ALL students will have the chance to exhibit their work, as part of the end of Year Show, at the FEED Studio in June. This means that there will be 2 main shows only.

Late May 2010 will be the Free Range Show, London and Mid June 2010 will be the Birmingham FEED show.

We talked briefly about the costing of making work, which people are slightly worried about. What we did last year was make work specifically for Free Range (FMP project) exhibit it in London then ship it back and put it up in Birmingham. So the costing there is not doubled.

It is worth thinking about your FMP now. As you know, I gave out a sample FMP brief in induction – start reading it and posting initial ideas on your blog – feel free to email me over half term (NO YOU CAN’T COME IN AS THE COLLEGE IS SHUT!). You can also get lots of really good information from last year’s FEED_NOISE blog: http://feed-noise.blogspot.com/ in terms of materials to use, where to get equipment from that can be transformed in light boxes and a plethora of ideas for your actual project from the ex students blogs.

First week back after Half Term FEED Studio Opening hours:

Monday: 9 – 12

Tuesday: OFF

Wednesday: ALL Day

Thursday: London Trip

Friday: OFF

These are non-teaching days but are open for you to use the facilities. Have a great half term and keep working hard,
